Adafruit 5987 RS232 Pal UART-to-RS-232 Level Shifters
Adafruit 5987 RS232 Pal UART-to-RS-232 Level Shifters are used for interfacing microcontrollers or microcomputers with RS-232 devices, commonly used in telco, industrial, or retro equipment. The Adafruit RS232 breakout board provides two duplex channels of level shifting, handling high and negative voltage requirements with the reliable MAX3232E chip, part of the trusted MAX232 series, supporting data rates up to 250Kbps. Designed to convert 0V to 3.3V or 0V to 5V UART signals to the ±6V to ±10V levels needed for RS-232 communication, this board operates on 3.3V power, which many other level shifters cannot. Pre-assembled with headers for easy integration, it connects RS-232 devices without complex circuitry.Features
- ESD protection for RS-232 bus pins
- ±15kV (HBM)
- ±8kV (IEC61000-4-2, contact discharge)
- ±15kV (IEC61000-4-2, air-gap discharge)
- Meets or exceeds the requirements of TIA/EIA-232-F and ITU V.28 standards
- Operates with 3V to 5.5V VCC supply
- Operates up to 250kbit/s
- Two drivers and two receivers
- 300μA (typical) low supply current
