Microchip Technology PCI12000C 3-Port PCIe Switch is a compact, single‑chip, three‑port PCIe switch that incorporates integrated programmable I/O. The Microchip PCI12000C features PCIe physical interfaces that provide one 2‑lane (2×8GT/s) upstream port and two 1‑lane (1×8GT/s) downstream ports, offering a maximum line rate of 8GT/s. Designed to meet increasing bandwidth demands in embedded PCIe subsystems, the device allows the upstream PCIe link to operate over one or multiple lanes for optimal system‑level flexibility. Internally, the switch implements a fully compliant PCIe architecture spanning the external physical interfaces, switch fabric, and endpoint controllers.

The PCI12000C also supports PCIe Precision Time Measurement (PTM), which enables components to exchange precise timing information. PTM allows devices to calculate the relationship between local clocks and a shared, independent time domain (known as PTM Master Time) as defined in the PCI Express Base Specification Revision 5.0 Version 1.0. This capability is particularly important when the timing difference between the PCIe host clock and device clock must be accurately determined.

A flexible programmable pin multiplexer allows various I/O functions to be assigned to specific package pins, enabling designers to use the default mapping or tailor signal assignments to specific application needs. Supported signal types include GPIO and SMBus, accessible through a dedicated PCIe Endpoint Controller. Although the device relies on multiple internal clock domains, these clocks are generated within an integrated clock farm, requiring only a single‑ended external 25MHz clock or crystal along with a PCIe reference clock.

Software integration is streamlined through standard abstractions compatible with major operating systems. The Microchip PCI12000C is offered in a 72‑pin VQFN package and is available across several temperature grades, including industrial (-40°C to +85°C), automotive Grade 3 (-40°C to +85°C), and automotive Grade 2 (-40°C to +105°C).
